Museum of History of Art Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod Region: from woodcarving to Easter eggs
Museum of the History of Art Crafts opened in Nizhny Novgorod in 1975. It stores about three thousand works of decorative and applied art of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The exhibits presented in the museum belong to different epochs: from the 19th century to the present day.
One can see kitchen utensils, furniture and interior items made by local wood carvers in the museum. There are a lot of artifacts representing the craftsmanship of Khokhloma craftsmen of art painting. There are showcases with unique folk crafts, such as filigree, forging, casting and hand embroidery. Separate attention in the exposition is given to the wooden and clay toys. Another part of the collection is dedicated to the art of painting Easter eggs in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
