Voronezh Regional Museum of Local Lore appeared in the city in 1894. It occupies an elegant brick building of 1902, where there long was a school for the blind at the beginning of the XX century. The museum moved here in 1959. Now it is a standard museum for the Russian province, which you can visit to get to know the history of the region and the extensive collection of butterflies, which is very much praised here.
In the early 20th century, the funds of the Voronezh Museum of Local Lore were actively replenished with objects found during excavations of fortified settlements and burial mounds. The objects of the Scythian everyday life, made of precious metals, which were found in 1911 in the so-called "Private burial mounds", are of particular interest. Despite the losses during the war, the museum can currently boast of an extensive collection of coins, folk costumes, porcelain and ceramics, firearms and knives.
