The ruins of the Ausfaler Gate in Kaliningrad are best viewed from Victory Park. This brick gate was built for pedestrians to pass through the earthen rampart and is therefore located below the ground level.
From the park one can see the old brick masonry of the Ausfaler Gate and the battlements above the archway. After the war a warehouse was located at the gate. And in the 1990's a chamber Orthodox memorial chapel of St. George the Victorious was built above the gate. This is a kind of monument to those Soviet soldiers who gave their lives in the assault of Koenigsberg. After the transfer of the gate to the local history and art museum plans were made to turn them into an exhibition space.
