The Hydropower Engineering Museum is one of the five best regional museums in Russia. Its exposition is a successful attempt to seize the unseizable: tell about the development of hydropower, the Soviet and Russian hydropower stations and the outstanding scientists, thanks to whom the Uglich and other hydroelectric power stations appeared. Here it is allowed to touch the exhibits. You can try to generate electric current on a cycling machine and «visit» the hydroelectric power station in the stereo-hall.
The Hydropower Engineering Museum helps to realize how much electricity we spend. This is facilitated by the «Electric Meter» exposition made in the form of a living room: you have only to throw a coin into an interactive layout, and all the devices in the room light up and the meter starts counting watts. The yard of the museum houses an open-air exhibition of aggregates: water turbines, hydraulic pumps and a control pillar.A «Childhood» Park adjoins the museum. It appeared thanks to a touching idea. The city authorities decided to give a seedling to each young family, in which a child was born. If a boy was born, they gave an ash-leaved maple seedling, and in case of a girl — a birch seedling. Young parents planted a tree in a designated area, which gradually filled with trees. So a park appeared. This tradition has become a thing of the past and the park has slightly desolated, but maples, birches and other trees continue to grow.
