The white obelisk to the Heroic City of Sevastopol looks like an inseparable bayonet and sail and symbolizes the unity of the army and navy. It was established on the Cape Khrustalny in 1977 in honor of awarding Sevastopol the title of the heroic city. The best view of the obelisk opens from the Kornilov Embankment and Primorsky Boulevard.
There are 40-meter sculptures of Soldier and Sailor rushing to attack on the western side of the obelisk. The construction of a memorial complex with eternal fire commemorating the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War began here in 1982. Then it was interrupted in 1989 and was completed in 2007. Now the city mayor's office plans to create a memorial park with a walking zone in this place. As for the Cape Khrustalny in Sevastopol Bay, it got its name thanks to the purest water and was very popular at the end of the XIX century, when the first bathhouses were built here. Now a city beach is organized here.
