Castle of Rabenstein was constructed in 1170 and initially extended over the territory of 2 hectares. Time showed no mercy to the fortress, leaving only the tower and eastern wing on the hill. Today Rabenstein is considered the smallest medieval castle in Saxony. In the 1950s the castle was reconstructed and in 1959 opened for visitors. Frescos of the beginning of the 17th century are preserved in the hall of the fortress. The castle surrounded by forests attracts tourists and is often used for performance of theatre plays and concerts, as well as weddings, that’s why you should check the daily programme before visiting.
