The Castle Church of St. Michael is called the stonehistory of Pforzheim: it is believed that its foundation was laid before theancient Romans settled in these places. It is not precisely known when theconstruction of the building with a Romanesque facade ended (althoughhistorians believe that not before the XII century). The Church is one of thefew medieval buildings in the city.
Thecrypt of Margraves of Baden is constructed under the arches of the temple. Napoleon’s adopted daughter, Grand DuchessStephanie de Beauharnais, is also buried in the crypt. Adjacent to the church isa museum devoted to humanist, scientist and politician Johann Reuchlin, whichalso houses the Jewelry Museum (Schmuckmuseum).ldings in the city.
