Zhigulevsky Brewery is the main answer to the question of why Samara is considered the beer capital of Russia. The brewery in the city was founded in 1881 by Austrian entrepreneur Alfred von Vacano. Originally, the "Viennese" beer was brewed here: the production volume during the first year reached 35,000 buckets of beer!
Zhigulevsky brewery was nationalized in 1918. However, the heirs of Vacano managed to lease it, and in 1929 the "State Zhigulevsky Brewery" Trust appeared. Production of beer under the "Zhigulevskoye" brand started only in 1935, but before then all the products of the brewery were collectively called Zhigulevskoye beer. In addition to beer, the brewery also produces non-alcoholic drinks, like, for example, “Buratino” lemonade. You can try freshly brewed "hits" of the factory during tasting excursions, which are held at the brewery restaurant. Tourists are not allowed to enter the beer factory.
