The Yalta mountain- forest nature reserve is located in the southern part of the Main Ridge of the Crimean Mountains. The old Romanov road passes through it. It was built here at the beginning of the 20th century for the imperial family. It was convenient to get to the nature reserve for hunting. In 1973 when the construction boom began on the southern coast of the Crimea, a decision was made to create a wildlife area and to protect from development the territory where the unique flora and fauna was collected. Hundreds of plant species grow in the reserve and dozens of animals live here, including the population of a red deer.
Access to the Yalta mountain- forest nature reserve is open for scientific research and automobile excursions. The route for tourists by car starts in Alushta or Yalta and passes through forests and open spaces. Such a trip will take about five hours. The reserve is a state-protected territory, therefore it is forbidden to walk here on foot. One of the most beautiful views of the valley and the sea opens from the Windy Arbour built on the top of Shaan-Kaya Mountain as a romantic addition to the natural beauty of the Crimean Mountains.
