Vasilevsky Monastery stands on a road leading from Suzdal to the village of Kideksha. It will take about 15 minutes to get there on foot from the Kremlin. The monastery has been mentioned in the annals since the middle of the 13th century. In 1669, the first stone three-domed cathedral, resembling a cube in shape, was built in its territory. One-story refectory links the cathedral with a three-tier bell tower. The Sretensky Refectory Church and a fence with low Holy Gates appeared later. The monks have always been short of money to decorate the cathedral. Therefore, a carved iconostasis is the only adornment of the temple.
Vasilevsky Monastery was originally a friary, and in 1916 it became a convent. In 1923 it was abolished. But in 1995 it became a functional friary again. There is a hotel for pilgrims in its territory. It is worth to get to the monastery to see on the way the Vasilevskaya Street with small houses. In the monastery, visitors can get acquainted with the monastery cat and go up the narrow and steep stairs to the bell tower, which offers a wonderful view of Suzdal and the village of Kideksha.
