The "Ai-Todor" estate: a sanatorium in the Gothic walls

The "Ai-Todor" estate in the village of Gaspra near Yalta is a former property of Prince Mikhail Romanov, who was the younger brother of Emperor Alexander II. At that time the building bought in 1869 and the adjacent territory were the largest estate of the Romanovs. A small palace and outbuildings were erected here, and a park with fountains and alleys around it was built.

In 1890 major part of the "Ai-Todor" estate was inherited by the son Alexander Romanov and here a new palace in the Art Nouveau style appeared. The main elements of the decoration were the bas-reliefs with antique themes. But only one of them with the image of farmers has survived. The smallest part of the estate was inherited by the second son who built the Kharaks palace. Soon after 1917 the Romanovs left the Crimea and the “Ai-Todor” estate became the property of the state. Today it operates as a children's sanatorium, therefore the territory is not intended for walks and excursions of visitors.
