The Park of Glory on the left bank of the Ob River in Novosibirsk is dedicated to the heroic deeds of the Siberians during the Great Patriotic War. The Monument of Glory stands in the western part of the park. The figure of the Grieving Mother is looking from a ten-meter high relief at the Unknown Soldier’s Grave with eternal flame. The surrounding pylons are decorated with military scenes on one side, while the other side contains engravings of more than 300 thousand names of Novosibirsk residents who died in the Great Patriotic War. Here, there are also urns with soil brought from the sites of historic battles.
In 1985, the Weapon Alley was opened in the Park of Glory, where the famous military vehicles were put on pedestals: the legendary T-34 tank, rocket launcher BM-13, self-propelled artillery cannon ISU-152, antitank gun ZiS-2, Yak-9 fighter aircraft, M-30 howitzer. The idea of gathering military equipment in the open air has started up on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Victory in the War.
