If you want to understand why Uglich is called so, you have to come to Naberezhnaya Street, where the Volga River makes a sharp turn forming an angle. Hence the name Uglich (from the Russian word ‘ugol’, that is, ‘angle’). You can find a round gazebo-rotunda on the Uglich embankment and enjoy the offered views of church domes and ancient buildings. This is one of the most popular places in the town to have photograph taken, and not only because of the picturesque water landscape. Illumination is turned on here in the evening, thus creating a romantic background on the photographs.
The quay of Uglich is near Naberezhnaya Street. In the XIX century, wealthy townspeople liked to come here in the evenings and dine on steamboats. Today, the quay is an obligatory stop for cruise motor ships running along the Volga.
