The Museum of Stone-cutting and Jewelry Art History appeared in the city in 1992, and unusual premises were chosen for it: the former Mining Drugstore of the early XIX century. Establishment of the museum was initiated by Dmitry Likhachev, an academician, President the Soviet Culture Foundation, who proposed to create a thematic exhibition "A World of Stone" in the city.
The thematic collection grew over time to a full-fledged Museum of Stone-cutting and Jewelry Art History. Its exhibits include the "Russian Jewelry Art History from the IX to the Early XX Century", "Ural Granite Crafts", "Mineralogical Collection". The so-called "Silver room" and "Gold Depository" are the pearls of the collection, which present the history of stone-cutting and jewelry.
