The fortifications between the villages of Liventsovka and Karatayevo on the outskirts of Rostov are called the Don Troy. It is considered to be the oldest fortress in Europe. This place is worth a visit if you want to look at separate stone slabs and a wall fragment, which are currently excavated. And this is all that has remained of the defensive construction built by the North Caucasian tribes in the 17th century BC and found in the 1950s.
According to scientists, the Liventsovskaya Fortress is only part of a vast archaeological complex, which includes settlements and necropolises from different eras, from the Eneolithic Period to the Bronze Age. Nowadays these places are in a state of neglect and periodically draw the interest of residential house developers. Excavations are likely to continue in future. In addition to a small area of fortifications, you can currently see burial mounds, remnants of gravestones and a cave in the territory of the Liventsovskaya Fortress.
