Gorky Central City Park (“Park Gorkovo”) is the oldest in Rostov-on-Don: it appeared in 1813. Before the Revolution of 1917, it was called a city garden, as it was shaped like a chain of landscaped gardens put under the jurisdiction of various clubs.
The Gorky City Park has a chess pavilion, cafes, gazebos and attractions with a Ferris wheel. The park regularly arranges exhibition and sale of works by local artists. Here, you can also explore celestial bodies with the help of special facilities: the park has an observatory (with an aerial combat simulator) and a dome for astronomical observations. Children can enjoy the sculptures of fairy-tale heroes, while adults will appreciate more solid monuments: Monument of the Great October Revolution, Monument to Lenin, a sculpture “A Flower Girl”, a Sculptural Composition “Merchant-Peddler and his Cat”, a Memorial “The Mayor of Rostov-on-Don Andrey Baikov”, dedicated to the city mayor in 1862-1869, under whom a water supply system appeared in Rostov.
