Wooden Brandenburg Gate, leading to the castle of the same name, was built in Koenigsberg in 1657. They defended the city from the south. In the XVIII century it was decided to replace them. A brick gate with two driveways appeared instead.
In 1843 the Brandenburg Gate was restored. It became neo-Gothic and decorated with flowers from sandstone on the pediment and high reliefs of German generals who participated in the war against Napoleon. In the side casemates, where the guards were previously stationed, after the war they arranged a warehouse. Now the gate is used for its intended purpose although when traveling through them the traffic stream narrows, which leads to traffic jams.
