Bobrenev Monastery

Bobrenev Monastery is an ancient suburb of Moscow, which was founded by Dmitry Donskoy a year after the victory in the Battle of Kulikovo in 1380. The monastery is located on the opposite from Kolomna bank of the Moskva River. At the end of the 14th century the Bobrenev Monastery was of strategic importance, defending the southeastern borders of Moscow. In the 18th century its churches were rebuilt and surrounded by a stone fence with towers in the corners.
Today Bobrenev Monastery attracts not only with its architecture, but also local shrines. In particular, the miraculous image of the Fedorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, which is almost 800 years old, is kept here in the Fedorovskaya church (Church of the Icon of the Mother of God and St. Theodore). This church is also called the temple of "Singing Angels" because of its unique acoustics: when on the choirs a prayer is performed by even one singer, it seems as if a whole choir is singing. In this case, the sound source miraculously dissipates.
