If Austrian Salzburg is considered to be the city of Mozart, then Bavarian Augsburg is sometimes called “his historical motherland”. Many generations of the Mozarts used to live in Augsburg, this family was famous in the town since the 15th century. The first of the Mozarts to leave the hometown was the father of Wolfgang Amadeus – Leopold Mozart. Son and grandson of the town masons, Leopold Mozart was a musician. He transferred to Salzburg, having received a position of the composer at court of Archbishop of Salzburg (interestingly, he was superseded by Johann Michael Haydn – another great composer).
Today the house of Leopold Mozart in Augsburg is the center of the town’s “Mozart route”. Wolfgang Amadeus had visited his father’s hometown many times, though stayed at hotels. The hotels that reached our days are also included in the “Mozart route”. In Mozart house you can see personal items, musical instruments of the family who lived in Augsburg till the middle of the 20th century.
