In place of the fortifications with the preserved remains of the XIX century walls, near the historic center of Neu-Ulm, there is a Glacis-park, the largest in the district. A water tower (Wasserturm) rises over here. It was built in 1898 and is a symbol of the city.
The area of the Glacis-park houses a lot of fitness equipment for independent sports activities, bikeways and playgrounds, as well as a beer garden (Barfüßer Biergarten im Glacis Park). A big "Flower Show» (Landesgartenschau) was held here in 2008, prior to which the Glacis-park acquired the current well-groomed appearance. If you go beyond the park and walk a little to the east, you will get to the Glacis-Galerie mall. It opened in 2015 and is full of shops and cafes.
