The Vitoslavitsy Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture is one of the most interesting places located four kilometers from Veliky Novgorod. In 1964, old wooden buildings from all over Russia were brought to the picturesque shore of Lake Myachino near the St. George's (Yuriev) Monastery. The collection built currently numbers over thirty architectural monuments of the 16th-19th centuries.
The Vitoslavlitsy Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture is a reconstruction of an ancient village with three beautiful temples in the center, a smithy, a barn, a dwelling house and a bath. Genuine peasant things are kept inside the old buildings on the territory of the museum-preserve. This open-air museum also contains log huts, barns with a drying-house and a stable where you can see how the horses are curbed, saddled and shod. In summer, you can go horse riding, and in winter horses are put to sledges and take for a ride anyone who wants to. Through participation in the milking of goats or combing out the wool you can get an idea of the labor of rural residents. The "Vitoslavlitsy" is especially interesting and funny during festivals and holidays, such as Maslenitsa (Shrovetide), Christmas or Easter, during which ancient mass games are organized, as well as bazaars are arranged where handmade souvenirs are sold and Russian rituals are shown. There are several establishments near the museum where you can taste Russian cuisine, kvass and sbiten (hot Russian drink of water, honey and spices).
