The Residence of Her Majesty the Queen of Maslenitsa of Russia is the first interactive museum in the country dedicated to the Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) festival. Here you can not only learn everything about this holiday, but also taste the meals cooked in the Russian stove. The Maslenitsa Festival originated in Ancient Rus. It is celebrated during the last week before Great Lent, with public festivities, sledding and baking of pancakes. On the last day of the feast, a straw figure of Maslenitsa is burnt marking the arrival of spring. The Maslenitsa festival is similar to the carnivals that take place in February - early March in European countries.
When the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II visited Yaroslavl with his family, a log town was erected in their honor. The Residence of Maslenitsa, looking like a painted mansion, is part of this town restored according to newsreels and drawings. If you imagine Maslenitsa in the form of a living person, then the residence looks like his house: there is a Wardrobe of Maslenitsa with costumes and headdresses; an office; a Storeroom full of gifts – craftsmen wares from across the globe; a Throne room where you can feast, with a Russian stove and a series of paintings with scenes dedicated to the Pancake Week. There is a space in the courtyard of the Residence for Russian games and amusements.
