The settlement Oreanda, entering the city district of Yalta, was a favorite place of the imperial family. Long before the construction of the church here, these places attracted the Emperor Nicholas I, who later built a palace surrounded by a magnificent park. But the fierce fire destroyed the palace, and the heirs did not have the funds for its recovery. Therefore, it was decided to erect the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God on its place. Prince Konstantin Romanov chose this place in Oreanda for the construction of the temple. The construction began in 1884.
In 1885 the building of the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God was ready. A modest temple is made in the Georgian-Byzantine style. It is crowned by one dome, and the frescoes are made by Italian mosaic masters. It is interesting that instead of the bell tower it was decided to use a large oak tree, which stood near the church, on which five bells were placed. Over time the chic mosaics in the church were destroyed. Neither the icons nor the image of the Intercession of the Mother of God survived. The building was seriously damaged by the Crimean earthquake of 1927 and stood for a long time closed. In the 50s the health resort "Oreanda Lower" was built here. Its buildings surrounded a small church, therefore it was decided to demolish it. But a miracle happened: local ethnographers defended the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God. It was completely restored in 1992.
