The church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Sevastopol is located at the Brotherhood cemetery, where the participants of the first defense of Sevastopol in 1854 - 1855 are buried. Its construction lasted for 13 years. The church was consecrated in 1870. They say that the church has the underground passage leading to the St. Vladimir's Cathedral.
The form of St. Nicholas Church in the form of a truncated pyramid resembles Egyptian pyramids, which are symbols of peace and eternity. The church is crowned with a cross of diorite weighing 24 tons. The cold lead from the bullets collected at the places of former battles in Sevastopol was used at the base of the church during the construction. Emperor Nicholas II and his family visited the church in 1898. Granite slabs with the names of the troops that participated in the defense were installed on the outer edges of the church during the 50th anniversary of Sevastopol’s defense. The church is decorated with mosaic and memorial plates with the names of the dead officers. The relics of the holy righteous warrior Fyodor Ushakov are also stored here. During the Second World War the church was damaged. Restoration work began in 1968. And in 1974 they installed a new cross, because the former one was split into three parts. In 1989 the service resumed in the church.
