St. John Vvedensky women’s Convent is located in the village of Priirtyshsky, 10 kilometers far from Tobolsk. This convent was founded in 1653 on the site of the miracle: during the procession with the Abalakskaya Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Shantalik a blind girl recovered her sight. Since its foundation and for two centuries it was a men’s monastery. A stone Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist has been preserved till now. In the middle of the XIX century the monastery was empty, and the remaining two monks were transferred to the Abalak monastery, and their place was occupied by nuns.
Sisters of St. John Vvedensky Convent embroidered with gold and silver on silk, made candles, bred livestock, grew wheat and opened a school for girls. In 1900 a new Church of the Holy Trinity was consecrated on the territory of the monastery. Some icons for its iconostasis were brought from Athos. In 1924 the church was blown up, and the monastery was closed. Only in 1998 the life was again warmed in the monastery. Here St.Seraphim of Sarov Church and St.John the Baptist Church were restored. Three icons, previously considered lost, were also returned here.
