Sochi History Museum was opened in 1920 on the basis of minerals, herbariums, objects of everyday life of the Caucasian peoples collected by the Caucasian Mountain Club. In 2000 the museum moved to the building of the former school.
Archaeological finds: ancient coins, ornaments, weapons are exhibited in the first hall of the Sochi History Museum. The treasure trove of jewelry of I-III centuries AD, found in 1960 when a sanatorium was being built in Loo, is particularly interesting. Here one can see Byzantine coins of the 6th-8th centuries. One of the halls of the museum is decorated as a cabin, and it shows the Russian artillery of the first half of the XIX century and its role in joining the Black Sea coast to Russia. Another hall is dedicated to the ethnic diversity of the region, here the kitchen of a migrant from Russia and the courtyard of the Armenian manor are reconstructed. The history of construction of the first Sochi resorts is presented in photographs. An unexpected bonus for the guests is a room with spacesuits, foodstuffs of astronauts and a descent vehicle of the Soyuz-9 spacecraft.
