Sochi Arboretum appeared in the city thanks to the publisher Sergei Khudekov. In 1899 he built a villa and called it Nadezhda in honor of his wife. And then he gradually collected more than 400 plant species from all over Russia and Europe and dropped them in a terraced park around the villa on the slope of the Bald Mountain. So Sochi arboretum was formed, in the collection of which there are now about two thousand plants from different countries of the world! This is a great place for walking and taking beautiful photos for memory.
In general the fate of the Sochi arboretum was happy. In 1922 the park on Bald Mountain was nationalized, and in 1933 Kurortny Prospekt divided it into two parts. So a marine aquarium and a cascade of ponds found themselves on the plain below. And in the historic upper part - the villa, a fountain with Cupids, sculptures of lions and the so-called Moorish arbor with round thin columns and a large dome were preserved. After the restoration in 2014 a house-museum of Khudekov was opened at the villa Nadezhda. Two parts of the park are connected by a funicular.
