St. Nicholas Cathedral in Kislovodsk is a light temple with golden domes. The first wooden church appeared here in 1803. A large stone cathedral was erected in its place 80 years later. It was a real work of art. Famous Russian artists: V. Polenov, the Vasnetsov brothers and others were invited to paint the walls of the temple. Here the Russian bass Feodor Chaliapin sang, and all the local nobility gathered for the festive services.
St. Nicholas Cathedral was blown up after the October Revolution of 1917. Instead, a monument to Lenin was erected in the central square. The restoration work of the temple started only in 1991 and lasted more than 17 years. Now St. Nicholas Cathedral is the center of cultural and religious life of Kislovodsk. It has a Sunday school, a pilgrimage service and holds regular church services. It is the main temple of the city, which is loved and revered by both locals and tourists.
