The elegant building of the railway station appeared in Kislovodsk at the end of the XIX century, together with the opening of a railway branch that connected the city with neighboring Mineralnye Vody. The elegant building of the station could compete with similar constructions in Moscow and St. Petersburg in its beauty and functionality. And it was no wonder, since Kislovodsk as a health resort flourished in those days. Local sanatoriums were extremely popular with the Russian nobility. A trip to the «watering place» by a fancy train, the fare of which sometimes exceeded 30,000 rubles, was indicative of a certain status in the society.
Simultaneously, a Kursaal was built next to the station. It was a single architectural ensemble, and the first thing that caught the eye upon arriving in the resort was the magnificent facade of the Kursaal, made in the New Renaissance style. The Kursaal had a large concert hall for 650 people, a summer stage with a crystal roof and a restaurant of Caucasian cuisine. Now the building is occupied by the Kislovodsk Philharmonic, and the hall where once opera singer Feodor Chaliapin sang, S. Rachmaninov played and Isadora Duncan danced, currently hosts classical music concerts.
