Castle Ragnit- ruins of cinematography

The castle of Ragnit is the heir of the wooden Prussian fortress of the same name, which was burned by representatives of the Teutonic Order. It is located in the city of Neman, which is located 120 kilometers far from Kaliningrad. It is known that after its destruction in 1289 a new fortress was built at the same place, and later it was also called Ragnit. It was attacked repeatedly by Lithuanians, and in 1365 they succeeded in destroying it.

In 1397 the Teutons decided to restore Ragnit two kilometers down the Memel River (Neman). They got a square shaped four-story stone castle with a 25-meter tower. From the XIX century until the arrival of Soviet power in the castle were the court and prison, and after the war opened the market. In 1976 the film "Twenty Days Without War" was shot here and an explosion was staged for one of the scenes in the castle. The scene in the film takes 10 seconds, and the castle because of this was in fact completely destroyed. Nobody needed it after that for a long time. Only in 2010 it was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church.
