Pushkin Baths in Pyatigorsk were named after the great Russian poet A. Pushkin in 1924 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of his birth. But two buildings of the figured masonry made of bricks and stone with baths for men and women appeared in the city much earlier — in 1902. And they were called then Sabaneyev baths in memory of the hero of the war of 1812 General Sabaneev. The doctors prescribed treatment for him on the waters. And that is why in the 1820s using his own funds he built one of the first clinics in Pyatigorsk.
The family of General Sabaneev took baths in the morning, and in the afternoon they were open to the entire Pyatigorsk audience. It is not known whether Pushkin took baths here or not, but this is the place of the manor of the relative of the Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov, whom Pushkin visited at the age of 11 together with his grandmother. Now in the Lower building of the baths one can go through procedures with hydrogen sulphide-carbonic water, experience the action of an underwater shower-massage and pull his spine in water on a special device.
