Polyana Skazok (Glade of Fairytales) Museum is located on the outskirts of Yalta. This outdoor exhibition first appeared in 1960 thanks to Pavel Bezrukov, a Muscovite, and an oilman who was diagnosed with tuberculosis and who went to the Crimea hoping that the local healing air would help him to recover. The disease really receded. And living in the mountains he took up his hobby - carved wood sculptures of fairy-tale characters.
Officially Polyana Skazok Museum was opened in 1970, and the first backbone of the exhibition was then the works of local sculptors and craftsmen. The museum is located in the gorge which is overgrown with forest. And this natural landscape is great for fabulous and cartoon characters which children love very much. In the warm season costumed performances are held here.
