Novosibirsk-Glavny (Novosibirsk Main Railway Station) is the largest railway station in Siberia. It was decided to build a new station in 1925. In 1930, the judges of the contest chose the simple clean constructivist layout of the architect Voloshinov. However, the design was reworked within a few years and eventually turned into an Art Nouveau building with a triumphal arch and a large attic.
Novosibirsk-Glavny station was opened at Garin-Mikhailovsky Square in 1939. In the late 1990s the building was restored and finished with granite and marble inside. A full-size mock-up of the XIX century’s “Provorny” steam locomotive is located left of the station.
