Nikolo-Terebenskiy Monastery is located rather far from Tver. But all who managed to overcome 150 km and reach the banks of the Mologa River, say about the unusual atmosphere of this place. From the day of its foundation in 1492 till the 30s of the XX century, when the monastery was closed, it was the men’s monastery. Its appearance is associated with the miraculous appearance of the icon of Nicholas the Wonderworker, which itself was transferred from the newly built church in the village of Terebeni to the bank of Mologa, to the spring surrounded by five birches. The local landowner built a wooden church at this place first, and then gave the entire village of Terebeni to the church. A small monastery grew up around the miraculous icon.
It is known that biscuits were baked in the Nikolo-Terebenskiy Monastery, and were taken to sell not only in Tver, but even in Moscow, St. Petersburg and abroad. People from far away were coming to bow to the shrines of the monastery, and the last Russian emperor Nicholas II was also here. In the mid-1990s the monastery was reborn, but already as women’s one. Nowadays a real miracle is taking place in the St. Nicholas Cathedral of the monastery. Its frescoes, which were almost destroyed in the middle of the twentieth century, now reappear on the walls, spontaneously reborn. Local residents say that angels are serving in St. Nicholas Cathedral. Also the monastery is famous for the miraculous Icon of the Mother of God "The Blessed Womb". The family couples, who want a child, come to it to pray.
