The Arch of Prince Nicholas in Vladivostok is a special place. Tourists are always crowded here, noisy and lively, cameras flash and speech in different languages sounds. The grand Arch of Prince Nicholas in the Russian-Byzantine style was built more than 120 years ago in honor of the visit of the heir to the throne, the future emperor Nicholas II to Vladivostok. In 1891 he was on a visit to the Far East. After that the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway began.
The Arch of Prince Nicholas is often called the eastern gate of Russia. The icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the patron saint of seamen, was installed in the Arch looking at the sea. After the revolution the arch was demolished. Only in 2003 it was built again. A wonderful view of the sea and moored warships opens from the Arch. There is also a sign in Vladivostok: when passing under the arches of the Triumphal Gates one makes a wish, it will necessarily be fulfilled.
