They started creating the Museum of Wooden Architecture Schelokovsky Hamlet in Nizhny Novgorod in 1969 in order to preserve the objects of Russian folk architecture. For the first time the museum opened to the public in the summer of 1973. The exposition here is made up of peasant houses, outbuildings and the church of the XVII-XIX centuries.
The oldest object of the Museum of Wooden Architecture Schelokovsky Hamlet is the Church of Intercession. It dates back to 1672. Totally, there are fifteen buildings here. All the houses were brought to the museum from the north of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Here one can get acquainted in detail with the peasant life in the XVII-XIX centuries, the conditions of their life, learn how people spent their free time and raised children. The museum is open all year round.
