The Museum-Preserve "The Kulikovo Field" is located in the place where in 1380 the Battle of Kulikovo took place, one of the most important events in the history of Russia. This historic place is separated from Tula by more than 100 kilometers. The victory in this battle that took place at the confluence of the rivers Nepryadva and Don became a serious step towards the liberation of the Russian people from the Golden Horde.
The Museum-Preserve "The Kulikovo Field" includes several memorials and exhibition centers. The battlefield is directly marked in a separate part with a diagram showing the alignment of forces during the battle. The burial place of the soldiers who died in the battle is marked in the Museum-Memorial Complex in Monastyrshchino village by a cross installed in the forest on the spot where the Russian regiment was in ambush. In this complex there is also a monument to Dmitry Donskoy, the Russian prince consecrated saint after the participation in this battle, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, the Unity and Memory Alley and the Museum of the Battle of Kulikovo itself.Another Memorial on the Red Hill is 12 kilometers far from this place. The church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh, a saint who blessed Dmitry Donskoy for the battle, is also located here, and the obelisk of the prince himself. The Museum Complex Kulikovo Field has been functioning 40 km far from this memorial, near the village of Mokhovoye. The main exhibit of the museum is a mock-up of the field itself with the reconstructed historical landscape of the 14th century. The maximum full immersion in the atmosphere is facilitated by the archaeological finds - real witnesses of the battle. Two more museums in the Museum Complex Kulikovo Field have no direct relationship to the Battle of Kulikovo: the Museum of Russian Merchants' Life in the urban locality Yepifan and Tula Antiquities Museum and Exhibition Center.
