The Museum of the Yaroslavl City History is located in a building that appeared a century before the foundation of the museum itself. This mansion of the late XIX century, facing the Volga Embankment, was the house of a rich merchant Vasily Kuznetsov. He was recognized as an honorary citizen of Yaroslavl for the charity work. The concept of the museum currently sounds like: "A Man in the History of Yaroslavl, a City in the History of Russia".
The main and most extensive exposition of the Museum of the Yaroslavl City History is the "Ten Centuries of the History of Yaroslavl" covering all milestones in the life of the city, from its founding by Prince Yaroslav the Wise to the present day. The history of the city can be traced in archaeological finds, ancient manuscripts, mock-up models, collections of weapons and coins and documents. Among the exhibits you can see the shackles of the revolutionaries of the early twentieth century committed to Yaroslavl prison, as well as a window grate. A separate section is dedicated to Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman cosmonaut and the native of Yaroslavl. The hall "The Outstanding People of Yaroslavl" presents photos, awards and personal belongings of famous Yaroslavl people: opera singer Leonid Sobinov and theater director Yuri Lyubimov. The exposition "From the History of Yaroslavl Medicine" is devoted to the methods of human disease diagnostics and treating, starting from the XII century and the first healers, monks and herbalists, to the present day.
