The ancient village of Bernovo is 125 km far from Tver on the bank of the Tma River. It houses a noble manor house - a two-storeyed mansion, perfectly preserved to this day, which belonged to the family of the Wulfs. Anna Petrovna Kern, the muse of the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, spent her childhood there. The poet himself visited this estate of his friends - the landowners the Wulfs for many times.
The Manor Bernovo was built in the late 18th century in the Empire style. There is still a park that is much older than the manor, 250-year-old trees, and an ancient family cemetery. Pushkin came here to his friend N.I. Wulf in 1828-33. He also was a friend of Wulf's wife Praskovia Aleksandrovna Osipova-Wulf and their children. In Bernovo the great Russian poet heard a legend about the unhappy love of the daughter of a miller, which later became the basis of his poem "The Mermaid." Now in front of the house there is a monument to A.S. Pushkin, and since 1971 the A.S. Pushkin Museum has been functioning in the building of the estate. The museum enters the Pushkin Ring of the Upper Volga. Here one can see everyday objects, documents, old paintings, musical instruments and the poet's room.
