Kotorosl Embankment runs along the left bank of the Kotorosl River and passes by the Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration of the Savior) Monastery. Since 2010, here there is one of the most popular touristy places in the city, Yaroslavl Millennium Park.
The territory of today's embankment was inhabited already in the era of Ancient Rus. The houses of wealthy merchants and churches stood here. In particular, the Church of St. Nicholas in Rubleny Gorod and the Church of Spasa-na-Gorodu (The Saviour in the Hillfort) appeared in the XVII century. Also here you can see a white round arbor. There existed a hippodrome on the embankment for a long time, but then it was replaced by a park on the occasion of the millennium of Yaroslavl. The Yaroslavl Millennium Park houses several fountains, lawns and flower compositions, a statue of a bear - the symbol of the city, a concert hall, playgrounds and an extreme park for skateboarders and cyclists. An exhibition of sand sculptures is held here in summer.
