The temple ensemble in Korovniki (Korovnitskaya Sloboda) in Yaroslavl includes four objects: the Church of St. John Chrysostom, the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, the bell tower and the Holy Gate. The construction of the ensemble began with the Church of St. John Chrysostom, erected in the middle of the XVII century. It is decorated with multicolored tiles and patterns, laid out of red brick. And it's not for nothing, since many potters and ceramists who took part in its construction, lived in Korovnitskaya Sloboda.
In 1669, the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God was built near the Church of St. John Chrysostom, and its interior design was completed only a century later. An octagonal 37-meter-high bell tower called “Yaroslavl Candle”, adorned with a patterned brick, appeared by the late XVII century. An arch, the baroque Holy Gate, decorated with tiles, was built between the temples at the beginning of the next century. The builders deliberately lowered the arch: the gate was to contrast with the high temples, emphasizing their majesty. Now the churches are undergoing restoration. It is not easy to get inside, however external examination will also be enough for impressions.
