The XVII century’s imperial Izmaylovo Estate on the Serebryanka River bank is an incredibly picturesque place. Falconry was once popular here in the local woods, as well as boating along the river and staging of performances in the home theater. Tsar Ivan the Terrible himself presented the estate as a gift to his first wife's brother.
Now the Izmaylovo Estate is a small museum complex with the Cathedral of Intercession (Pokrovsky Cathedral), the Palace Gates of the XVII century and the barbican tower with a museum. The exposition presents rare manuscript and early printed books, tiles and Old Russian painting. The gingerbread small towers of the Izmaylovo Kremlin, recreated in 1998, rise nearby. Its territory is home to a cultural and entertainment center with a Museum of Bread and Russian Vodka, a palace of Russian Meal and a blacksmith's yard, a pottery and chocolate workshops.
Inside the Izmaylovo Kremlin there is a miniature town called Russkoye Podvorye (Russian Courtyard), where thousands of guests and tourists gather in the days of holidays and festivities. There is a pond with a fountain on the main site with paved paths, shops, museums and cafes. Here you can witness noisy and merry Russian weddings, as the Kremlin has its own Wedding Palace. "Vernissage in Izmaylovo", one of the country’s most famous and largest exhibitions and fairs, is also held in the Izmaylovo Kremlin. Here you can buy unique handmade souvenirs of famous masters from Zhostovo, Palekh, Gzhel and Sergiev Posad, and also choose a painting to your liking in the "Artists’ Alley", where more than 100 painters from Russia and abroad exhibit their works. In addition, there are Flea and Antique markets in the Vernissage, which look like a museum.
