Sergiyev Posad State History and Art Museum Preserve is the main museum of Sergiyev Posad. It was opened in the early XX century specifically to collect there the Old Russian art of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. Now the museum stores more than 120 thousand exhibits located in four buildings of the complex.

The Sergiyev Posad Museum includes the Lavra Sacristy and the Vicarial Chamber of the 18th century, where art values of the medieval period are exhibited, including icons, old printed books, manuscripts, sewing, silver and gold work. The building of the former monastic stables on the "Konny Dvor" contains a collection of Russian matryoshka dolls. History of the region, since antiquity, is represented in the Local History Department of the museum, and the Main Building is home to the central show room where exhibitions of contemporary artists and masters of decorative and applied arts are held.
