The Historical Square in Tyumen was built approximately on the place where in 1586 the Cossacks built the first prison. A memorial stone installed on the square resembles about the date of the foundation of the city.
In 1968 a 28-meter stele was erected in the center of the Historical Square - a monument to the memory of the fallen warriors of the Great Patriotic War with eternal fire as well as a stone pylon with the names of the Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tyumen and a bas-relief in memory of the fallen soldiers. There is a magnificent view of the Tura River from the square.
