The State History Museum of the Southern Urals is one of the most modern museums in Chelyabinsk and the region. Its building was built in 2006 on the picturesque bank of the Miass River at the place of the former Chelyabinsk fortress of the XVIII century. That is why the museum looks like a citadel.
There are about 300 thousand items in the Historical Museum of the Southern Urals. The famous Chelyabinsk meteorite, that fell into Lake Chebarkul in 2013, is among them, as well as skeletons, coins and utensils discovered in burial mounts. Old photos, documents, rare books, clothes of nomad tribes, Zlatoust engraving and much more are exhibited in the museum too. All this helps to better understand the peculiarities of the Urals life and the history of the region.
