Gorky Communications Equipment Plant History Museum is dedicated to the history of the Gorky Automobile Plant, one of the largest enterprises in Russia. It was founded in Nizhny Novgorod in 1932. The construction was conducted with the help of specialists of the American auto giant Ford. From the first days of the working of the assembly line the plant began producing a full line of vehicles: trucks, buses, cars.

During the Second World War the production of the plant was completely reoriented for military needs. After the war the civil car industry resumed. Luxurious cars in the 40s and 50s were «Pobeda» (victory) cars. And the brands "Volga" and "Chayka" that appeared a little later were a symbol of Soviet luxury cars. Until the collapse of the Soviet Union, "Volga" was the main car of the Communist party bosses and only a few private individuals could afford to buy such a car. As for “Chayka”, it served the needs of the country's top leadership. In parallel, the construction of trucks of various modifications under the GAZ (Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod –GAZ) went on developing. They were also in a high demand in the USSR. All this can be found in the museum. Here are presented all the modifications of the GAZ motors that came out of the conveyoring system of the plant for almost a hundred years of its existence, the detailed history of the creation of models and the fate of their creators.
