The Goat Museum appeared in Tver in 2008. It was created on the basis of a private collection and is housed in three rooms. The museum recalls that one of the ancient Tver crafts was the currying. Saffiano Sloboda was formed in Tver in the XVII century. Masters, who were currying goatskin leather and sewing out saffiano leather boots of it, lived there. At that time the inhabitants of Tver began to be called more jokingly, and sometimes even seriously "Tver goats". The nickname was not offensive: a goat in Russia has always been considered to be a serious animal, capable of fighting both a wolf and a bear.
The figurines and drawings of this animal are collected in the Goat Museum. In total, nearly four thousand goats from 40 countries of the world are kept here! Tales and legends about the goats are written on a real goatskin, which decorates the wall of one of the rooms of the museum. Admission is free for the visitors whose surname is formed from the word "goat". By the way, Kozlov (goat is Russian is “kozel”) is one of the most common Russian surnames.
