Silence and pacification are the two main words that characterize the atmosphere of the Compound of the Raifskiy Monastery located 30 kilometers far from Kazan. This monastery was founded by the hermit Philaret in the 17th century. It is considered to be one of the largest ones in the Kazan diocese.
The temple ensemble is surrounded by a long battlement wall with towers forming an original ensemble of the monastery's Kremlin. Behind the gate there are old churches: the tiny Sofia Church, the magnificent Georgian Cathedral in the style of classicism, the Holy Trinity Church and the Church in Honor of the Holy Fathers in Sinai and Raifa. People come here to admire the ancient architecture, the picturesque Raifa Lake and the protected pine forest, and also to see one of the shrines of the monastery - an exact copy of the Georgian icon of the Mother of God of the XVII century. Everyone is also impressed by the nature around the monastery and the unusually well-groomed compact territory of the monastery.
