The Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an atypical phenomenon for Yalta. The history of its creation began in 1855, when the Catholic community of the city numbered 500 people. The parishioners came to the mass in a small prayer house, which could no longer accommodate all comers. Therefore in 1898 the authorities gave permission for the construction of a Catholic church. But only in 1906 the church accepted the first parishioners.
The services in this church were conducted till 1928, and then a branch of the historical museum of Yalta was placed there. By a twist of fate the organ in the cathedral appeared only in 1988 when the building was used as a concert and organ hall. The cathedral was re-owned by the Catholic community only in 1991. In addition to the mass, organ music concerts regularly take place there.
