The Children's Park of Simferopol is located on the right bank of the Salgir River. This is a low-lying place, and almost no houses were built here because of the constant overflow of the river. Therefore, ancient trees still grow in the park. There were also gardens here from the early XIX century. In 1958 it was decided to set up a children's park here, the first in the USSR! It was a real childhood world with an aquarium, a "green theater", pets’ corner and even a regional children's observatory. In 1970, a Palace of the Pioneers appeared in the park. Children's playgrounds and a "Fairy Tale Corner" with figures of fairy-tale heroes were arranged for kids.
In the early 90-ies of the XX century, the Children's Park went through hard times. But today you can have a perfect rest here again and attend attractions, the children's observatory, the aquarium and the zoo. But the main attraction of the park is the 750-year-old giant oak "Bogatyr Tavridy" (“Hercules Tauris”). It is known that the tree was mentioned as ancient on the city plans as far back as in 1786. Now the height of the oak reaches 25 meters and the circumference of the stem is 6.5 meters.
